Battle of Hastings – Oct 10, 1066 between Saxon King Harold II and William, Duke of Normandy – later William the Conqueror – William’s defeat of the Saxon forces lead to the Norman domination of England.

King John of England signed the Magna Carta on June 15, 1215 in which he promised his people to rule according to the tenets of Feudal Law. It gave his vassals certain rights like trial by jury and equal access to courts for all citizens. It guaranteed that life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness could not be taken from the nobility without due process of law. Very similar to the Bill of Rights of the U S Constitution.

King Philip II of France – 1165-1223, reigned from 1180 to 1223. Very powerful monarch. He joined with Richard the I of England and in 1190 they embarked together on the third crusade. In 1214 Philip defeated a coalition of European forces at the Battle of Bouvines and established France as a leading country in Europe.

That’s just the basics – try looking some of this up on Encarta on-line.

One of the fundamental matters it mentioned is that the King would no longer arrest humans with out due procedure of the courts ie habeus corpus which then grew to become an hassle once more underneath Charles I and resulted in the Civil War. But John began a battle in opposition to the Barons who made him signal it and refused to be certain via the Magna Carta besides.
