I would give this one specifically:
The length of a computer keyboard is 11 inches longer than it is wide. The total area of the keyboard is 80 inches squared. Find the length and the width of the keyboard.
A = LW
80 = (x + 11)(x)
80 = x^2 + 11x
x^2 + 11x – 80 = 0
(x-5)(x + 16) =0
x-5 = 0 or x + 16 = 0
x = 5 or x = -16
x must equal five as negative dimensions do not exist
x = 5 = width
x+11 = 5 + 11 = 16 = length
If you are looking for short cuts to intelligent questions than I would suggest you look up the study material for these topics in some coaching books for B-school admission tests ( CAT, etc). They have some good questions and most are high school standard with a twist.
