To verify if the lines are parellel, perpendicular or neither, we just check on their slopes.

a.) If slope of line 1 is equal to that of line 2, they are parallel.

b.) If slope of line 1 is equal to the negative reciprocal of line 2, they are perpendicular.

c.) If the comparison of their slopes does not fall within any of the two mentioned above, “neither” will be the answer.

So, let’s check on their slopes.

m1 = (y2-y1)/(x2-x1)

m1 = (-8-2)/(3-9)

m1 = -10/-6

m1 = 5/3

m2 = (y2-y1)/(x2-x1)

m2 = (-1-5)/[(5)-(-3)]

m2 = -6/(5+3)

m2 = -6/8

m2 = -3/4

Comparing the slopes of the two lines, they fall under option “c”.
