I need some help. It shouldnt be to hard.?
What does this statement mean?
“The Struggle for freedom was forever banished from the halls of Congress to the western plains.”
It is what Stephan Douglas said after the Kansas-Nebraska Act
Please help. I am kind of confused.

I believe that Douglas was ta liking about slavery and the issue of whether slavery would be extended to the new territories in the West as they became states.There was the belief in popular sovereignty where the people iv a territory would vote if they wanted to allow or not allow slavery. This became a political issue in Congress since there was an attempt of the Southern states to maintain a balance of the same number of states in the Senate between the free and the slave states.
