Geometry is one of the branches of mathematics that has to do with the shape of individual objects, spatial relationships among various objects, and the properties of surrounding space. This is one of the oldest branches of mathematics. It dates back to ancient Mesopotamia, Egypt and the Indus valley, which were around in 3000 BC. Since that time they have used geometry to study figures and other objects to find the lengths, angles, areas, and volumes. This helped in the development of meeting some practical need in surveying, construction, astronomy, and various crafts.

Geometry is one of the oldest sciences. The earliest recorded beginnings of geometry can be traced to ancient Mesopotamia, Egypt, and the Indus Valley from around 3000 BC. Early geometry was a collection of empirically discovered principles concerning lengths, angles, areas, and volumes, which were developed to meet some practical need in surveying, construction, astronomy, and various crafts. Geometry was put into an axiomatic form by Euclid, in the third century A.D. Astronomy served as an important source of geometric problems during the next one and a half millennia.
