I need help with this math problem?

1. For the following equation, take any two points on the line and calculate the slope: y = 5x – 2.

….Please let me know if i have any mistakes:

y = 5x -2 ; is equivalent to: y = 5(1) – 2

So, the two points would be (5, -2) and (1, -2)

m(slope) = (y2 – y1) / (x2 – x1) = (-2-(-2) / (1-5) = (-2+2) / (1-5) = (0) / (-4). So would the solution or the slope be (0/-4) ?

the slope should be 5 because thats the coefficient of “X”

if you use 1 as x its

y=5(1)-2

y=3

Coordinate pairs are (x,y)

You used x=1 so thats your “x” coordinate. When you plugged that into the equation you got y=3 so your “y” coordinate is 3

(1,3)

Then use something like x=2 so your equation is

y=5(2)-2

Y=8

your point is (2,8)

then use slope

(8-3)/(2-1)=(5/1)=5

Simster is right, the slope formula is y=mx+b so the slope is 5

I might b rong. but its worth a shot. the way i THINK i learned it is that theres a eq. called the slope formula…….y=mx+b…so i think the slope is 5
