The sum of two numbers is 80 their difference is 36. Find the two numbers

x+y=80
x-y=36 ——–> x=y+36
substitute.
(y+36) +y= 80
2y+36=80
80-36=2y
44=2y
22=y
and the other number is 58

x – y = 36
So, x = 80 – y and also, x = 36 + y
Since x = x, that means that 80 -y = 36 + y
80 – 36 = 2y
44 = 2y
y = 22
If x + y = 80, then that means x + 22 = 80, and x = 80-22, so x =58.
