I need help with the distributive property?

For example, (3+8)4. Does it matter if I write it like 3(4)+8(4), or should I write it like 4(3)+4(8), or does it not matter?

it doesnt matter, dont worry. i forgot the name of the property that states it, but it pretty much just says that the order does not matter if you are adding, or multiplying. it only applies to addition and multiplication though. to division and subtraction, it matter a lot.

in this case, since your multiplying the two, the first one you give is 3(4)+8(4)= 12 + 32= 44

the second one 4(3)+4(8)= 12+32= 44

the same thing as you can see

it still gives your the same answer

all you need to know for the distributive property is that you always need to make sure that you multiply the outside contant or variable to all the numbers inside.

It would be 3(4)+4(8) which would end up being 12+32 which equals 44.

it doesnt matter unless your showing that you are multiplying everything in the parenthesis by 4.

4(3+8) =

4(3)+4(8)

3(4)+8(4)

8(4)+3(4)

anything will do it doesnt matter how its written as long as you do the math right

It doesn’t matter, both ways are acceptable. Multiplication is commutative, so which ever order you multiply numbers in, the answer will be the same.

paintings backwards… the consumer-friendly type being expanded is 3. and the numbers being expanded are 4.a million and six.3 that are related via a + sign. so, its 3(4.a million + 6.3) [they are related via the addition sign in the parenthesis because of the fact they have been related via that interior the orignial equation] =]

It doesn’t matter. They are both acceptable because they would equal the same thing no matter which way they are written.
