Well, suppose you want x and y to be isolated, and one expressed in terms of the other. That’s pretty much the only thing that can be done to this equation. It cannot be ‘solved’ as infinite values of x and y will satisfy this equation.

Isolating x:

3x + 2y = -6

3x = – (2y + 6)

x = – (2y + 6)/3

x = -2(y + 3)/3

Isolating y:

2y + 3x = -6

2y = – (3x + 6)

y = – (3x + 6)/2

y = -3(x + 2)/2

For example, x = 0 and y = -3 is one solution. x = -2 and y = 0 is another. Like that, there are infinite solutions.

I don’t know if this is right or not, but wouldn’t you have to find a number for x and y that add up to a -6? My thoughts:

3x+ 2y = -6

3(-2) +2(0) = -6

-6 +0 = -6

-6 =-6

You could reverse it, if it’s right, and use 0 for x and -3 for y.

simplify it.. to the y = mx + b formula

minus both sides by 3x … 2y = -3x – 6

divide both sides by 2 … y = -3/2x – 3

I believe that you can only simplify it.

I hope this website can help you:

well u can’t combine any like terms, so that’s the answer. there’s nothing you can do to it.
