I need help coming up with an idea to teach a lesson for 20 minutes in front of my class…?
I am interested in Theater, and I think it would be interesting to try and teach something about that. I’m also into History, current events, etc. My main goal is to actively involve each student, and make it a fun time. I wanted to have a debate but my teacher said it would take to much time. I like controversial topics and things that make people think. Sorry for this being so unorganized… I need some ideas tonight, Got any ideas?

Pick something very uncomplicated (to you), such as stage direction.
You can discuss a little bit of history, how way back when, stages were not flat, hence the term “upstage” being a formerly literal term.
Explain stage left and right and how it is different from the right and left of the audience, and why its important for an actor/actress/stagehand to know the difference.
Get everyone to stand somewhat together, and practice moving upstage, downstage, left right and center stage.
This will get your students moving (few students enjoy sitting and being lectured to), and the entire process, especially if you’re a fan of old stage styles, handing out visual aids of the evolution of the stage, explaining terms and why they’re used, explaining what things could go wrong, and getting everyone wiggling around will take about 20-25 minutes, if you’re calm, relaxed, and thorough.

whatever you decide to teach, here are some hints for organization/presentation:
1. use visuals, even just writing instructions on the board or demonstrating what is to be done;
2. speak clearly and invite questions to be sure your students all understand the assignment;
3. do as much ‘hands on’ as possible — when people are participating, they are learning (many people check out when they are being lectured to or talked at);
4. practice your lessons to be sure they work;
5. plan a couple extra activities in case your students move through the lesson faster than you thought.
enjoy!
That would cover history, drama, debate, and class participation. You could bring in a few simple props and have students read parts expressively. Use the first few minutes of class to explain what to do. Use the last few minutes to recap with a few “take home” points that you want them to remember long term. Have fun!!!!
