I’m writing an essay for World History on the importance of trading, can anyone come up with two or three?
Favorite Answer
1) Trading allows societies to achieve a division of labor, whereby individuals are allowed to specialize in certain areas (such as blacksmithing or farming), and then trade their goods produced with others for the things they need. With a division of labor, we receive several wonderful benefits. a) A division of labor allows for experts to be created. With a division of labor, people can specialize at what they do best and become even better, thus instead of a person having to divide his time between growing crops, sewing clothes, and blacksmithing his tools, he can focus only on the blacksmithing and become an excellent blacksmith creating many more tools of a much higher quality then he could have otherwise had the skills or the time to create. b) a division of labor also creates a higher effecency, because by working on only a single skill, individuals become faster and more adept at that skill, and thus mor blacksmithing, farming, or sewing is completed per person than would otherwise be possible without trading.
2) Trading allows people in different areas to enjoy goods and items that cannot be created or produced in their areas, thus inland people can enjoy fish while coastal people could enjoy gold or bear fur.
3) Trading creates a way for people of vastly different backgrounds to interact peacefully without violence. Thus the different cultures can interact and the unique ideas of the different peoples are mixed and the two peoples can grow intellectually and socially.
Hope that helps some!
