In order to know m (slope) and b (y-intercept), we have to get it into slope-intercept form, which is y = mx + b:

3/4x + 2y = -3 let’s move the 3/4x to the other side of the =:

3/4x – 3/4x + 2y = -3 – 3/4x

2y = -3/4x – 3 now let’s divide by 2:

2y/2 = -3/4x/2 – 3/2

y = -3/8x – 3/2 now we have our answer!

m = -3/8 b = -3/2

Hope this helps! 🙂

In order to get a linear equation in slope-intercept form, you have to get it into

y=mx+b

right??

okay, then…

Let’s isolate the y.

3/4x +2y=-3

1. move the 3/4x to the other side by subtracting 3/4 x from both sides.

2y=-3/4x-3

2. Remove the 2 from the y by diving both sides by 2.

y=-3/8x-3/2

3. Compare with y=mx+b

y=-3/8x-3/2

y=mx+b

SO..

m=-3/8, b=-3/2

Basically you need to rearrange the equation to indicate m (slope) and b(y intercept).

Start by isolating y and the y term.

3/4x+2y= -3

-3/4x -3/4x

_____________

2y= -3/4x – 3

Than, you need to divide both sides by 2 so that y is by itself as a multiple of 1:

2y/2 = (-3/4x – 3)/2

this will give you:

y= (-3/4x)/2 – (3/2)

y= -3/8x – 3/2

In the equation y=mx+b m is the slope and b is the intercept.

Hope this helps
