Take into account both views

Why they should be allowed: research, news, email

Shouldn’t: chat rooms, predators. porn.

I agree that children under the age of 16 should be allowed to access the Internet unsupervised.

We have to show we trust and respect children sufficiently to allow them to make good decisions about their Internet useage.

A responsible parent would allow access, providing they had cautioned a child as to appropriate sites etc. prior to the access.

There are predators and bad influences in reality as much as in the virtual world, and we can’t seek to incarcerate children and not let them out into the world to explore and learn their own lessons.

No…. 16 year olds and younger get too emotionally involved in almost all aspects of their lives, school ( really like or dislike it), girl/boy friends, sports.. etc. That same emotion makes them too vulnerable to the smooth talking perverts who troll the net hourly and daily looking for preteens especially. Ther are 52 year old men and women who do not want a 18 year old… they want a 12 or 13 year old. Also, there are very graphic pictures on the net.

The obvious tack is to research child predators. I suspect the easiest argument to support is going to be NO, they should not.

Remember, you are writing this for a GRADE, not to change the world =0)

It’s a first amendment / privacy issue at its core, so be sure to keep that in mind when you gather evidence.

For example, Roe vs. Wade was a debate over privacy, not abortion itself.
