i have a word problem from my intermediate algebra class that i can’t figure out. please help.?

two cars are 350 km apart and travel toward each other on the same road. one travels 110 kph, and the other travels 90 kph. how long will it take to two cars to meet?

You just need to find out when 110t + 90t = 350 or when 200t = 350.

200t = 350 (divide both sides by 200)

t = 1.75k/h which is the same as 1 hour, 45 minutes.

If car a is going 110k/h for 1.75 minutes, it will be 192.5k along its way. If car b is going 90 k/h for 1.75 minutes, it will be 157.5k along the way.

192.5k + 157.5k = 350k … in other words, they’ve met

the cars travel a combined distance of 200km per hour and they need to travel 350 km.. so, it will take them 1 3/4 hours to reach each other
