That sucks. I’ve done that. I went to state quals with no prepared speeches, on top of having personal issues. My coach wanted me to just go impromptu but I ended up dropping out. I shouldn’t’ve dropped out or came unprepared but it still irks me that my team was trying to make me “persevere” even though I was crying etc. Are you on the Speech and Debate team?

Anyway:

Affirmative:

– do research on how much time people spend watching TV, then elaborate on the idea/incoorporate it into your argument

– media violence/over-sexualization

^—-Negative: might rip you apart by saying that humans are over-sexed to begin with [i agree]

– do research on fat people and the TV – kids are watching TV for 5464575464 hours a day instead of their daily recommended 2 hours of exercise

– etc.

Negative:

– the television isn’t what causes harm – people choose not to exercise and would probably not exercise even if there were no televisions (ex. cigarettes/trans fatty foods/etc exist but people can choose to avoid using/eating them.)

^—Affirmative: argument for that would be that people avoid using them because they’re harmful. so yes, people could choose not to use a television – it’s because it’s harmful.

– blah blah blah

– television can be educational – something harmful could not educate you. sharks don’t teach you anything. at most, a shark could teach you how to defend yourself against a shark.

– blah blah blah

– recreational

– blah blah blah

– news, communication, blah blah blah

it’s 3 am good night

sorry for rambling

oh and the x-ray thing – don’t use it unless you can bring up the research materials/proof. i mean, you could make it up if you want. but your judge will mark points off. and your opponent will rip you apart. my response would’ve been “uh, no.” haha. i’ve never heard of that so i’m not sure. even if the TV does emit tiny little x-rays, the effect is negligible. anyway, it would be more of a burden to your argument to bring it up.

TV viewing is a bad trend.

It makes a bad habit of sticking to chair.

It tells u so many things but seldom does it make u 2 work.

It tells u so many bad things duly glorified.

It has already created family disputes in large number.

You may detail out any or all of the above points depending on the time slot allowed.

What on earth have you been doing… watching TV? I can see doing a little research for your topic, but I think you may have gone too far! ;-}

You’ll have to write your own script, I think you’ll discover that. So put your thinking cap on and “study” the bad effects of television. List them on your little cards. You can do it.

Here’s a link about the invention and development of TV for a few facts:

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/

I haven’t watched TV in years and I can do it, ’cause I’ve read about it sometimes… surely you can. Take your stand and read it out with conviction.

good luck!

Television viewing is not harmful. The content of t.v. from country to country is different. America actually has the least amount of violence and nudity or graphic scenes in the whole world . But America does have the highest crime rate.

Mention that TVs emit X-rays which cause DNA damage and cancer in large amounts. That should throw your opponents for a loop if they don’t know about the safety threshold of X-rays.
