Discipline brings out talent and the best in all students. In a chaotic environment talent is usually lost and cannot be developed further.

I’ve taught for 29 years and been in a system that went from strong discipline to relaxed discipline. The experiment did not work. Students wanting to learn thrive with discipline. Those who dislike discipline, dislike learning. Discipline is not the enemy of imagination and creativity. Having been forced to try both, I definitely like a school with fair, reasonable yet strong discipline with appropriate yet strong consequences. The truly good students from “good” homes appreciate the learning atmosphere allowed from a school with good discipline. Adults are there for a reason. We have been there and learned through experience. That’s the difference between wisdom and intelligence. After 29 years, I believe my wisdom is valuable to others. Like any great and strong group or organization, you are stronger when the leaders can lead and those below the authority level know and respect that and understand the goals and how to advance within the structure that discipline allows.

Discipline now means success later. The kids learn the importance of right and wrong. Therefore they have the ability to make the right choices before they end up in jail. If a child is disciplened young then they grow into productive adults.

Obama was more relaxed and better prepared even though Mcain gave us all a geography lesson he still did not answer the questions I feel like Mcain was lieing to much and when Obama brought up the war started in 2003 not 2007 and told mcain alot of his judgement calls were wrong Mcain showed his hot temper and could not handle it I think Obama won this debate and if the next one is on the economy mcain is really in trouble and I dont even want to see the VP debate after seeing Palins interview with Katie Couric wow she needs a tutor

1) Students LIKE structure, a chaotic classroom does not afford them that opportunity.

2)Students lose respect if the teacher is not “strong;” they would much rather have a formiddable, consistent teacher than they would have a wishy washy one.

3) Parents don’t like a teacher who cannot maintain discipline in the classroom; same thing with admins; there are whole studies devoted to structuring one’s classroom (for instance, check out the works of Dr. Mark Gall)

The teacher cannot teach ALL of the students if one or two are constantly disturbing the class and the teacher must stop them by taking time away from the rest of the class. It ends up that no one can learn.

Take it to it’s extreme…

Consider a classroom full of 25 students. 5 are standing on their chairs waving their arms and screaming. if you cannot discipline that, how much learning will take place?
