I don’t understand the wording of this math problem?
“… rug covers half the floor area of a room and leaves a uniform strip of bare floor around the edges.” The rug is rectangular. Does that mean that there is a equal amount of space on each side of the rug, making the room rectangular? Its only the “uniform strip” bit that I don’t really get.

I think they mean that the width of the bare floor between the edge of the carpet and the wall is the same all the way around. For example if you had a 8 ft x 10 ft carpet centered in a 12 ft x 14 ft room, there would be 2 ft bare strip all around.

the room is also rectangular. uniform can also mean equal (just like a school uniform makes everybody equal attire-wise), so the difference between the rug and the wall on every side is the same

it means the room is also rectangular. like a rectangle in a rectangle. there is the same amount of inches between the rugs on all four sides

uniform means to be the same .. so the strip must be the same size on either two opposites or all sides .. i.e. it is ‘uniform’ in shape not irregular
