I can’t seem to get the right answer for this physics question, can someone show me the steps to solve it. PLs

An adult is pulling 2 small childern in a sleight over level snow. The sleigh and the children have a total mass of 47 kg. The sleight rope makes an angle of 23 degrees with the horizontal. The coefficent of friction between the sled and the snow is 0.11. What is the magnitude of the tension in the rope?

PS: The normal force does not equal the force of gravity.

The ans is 53N.

so, you seem to ave a force up caused by the pulling rope. call this force X – It takes the weight of a bit:

Fn = 47 kg x 9.8 N/kg – X

Fback = 0.11 (47 kg x 9.8 N/kg – X) = F_forward

Tension = X /sin (23)

so first find X:

tan(23) = X/ [0.11 (47 kg x 9.8 N/kg – X) ]

0.11 (47×9.8 – X) tan(23) = X

50.666 -0.11 X = 2.356X

X = 20.547 N

Tension =20.547 N /sin (23) = 53 N
