how would I find the slope and y-intercept?
and
-5y – 2x=7
can you please explain, I have a test tomorrow and need to know! =/
Favorite Answer
f(x) = y
y = -3/5x + 12
slope= m = -3/5
y-intercept= b = 12
-5y – 2x = 7
First rewrite in slope intercept form (get y on the left side by itself)
-5y = 2x + 7
y = -2/5 x – 7/5
slope = m = -2/5
y-intercept = b = -7/5
y-intercept=12
Y=mx+b
m(which is always closest to the x ) is the slope
b(which always has either a + or – in front of it)is the y-intercept.
(2) -5y-2x=7
first you add -2x to the opposite side(next to 7). You do this because you have to get y by itself and you have to add the opposite to the number so that they cancel each other out (like -1+1=0 or 4-4=0)
then your problem should look like this: -5y=2x+7.
then you divide -5 on both sides(because the opposite of multiplication is division, and you do this to cancel out the -5 so that y is by itself)
Now, you problem should look like this: y=-2/5x-7/5. Once your problem looks like this repeat the steps of number one, and your answer should be: slope= -2/5x, y-intercept=-7/5 (or -1.4)
3/5 is the slope because it is with x (its the coefficient).
12 is the y intercept because it is where the line crosses or touches the y-axis
I am not sure about the second equations so I will leave that to somebody else
*add 2x to each side
-5y=2x+7
*divide each side by-5
y= -2/5x-1.4
slope_ -2/5 y int._ -1.4 or -7/5
