How To: …?

I have a “How To:” rough draft due Tuesday. A How To: Paper, for those who don’t know, is an instructional paper,

i.e. “You will need these supplies. Blah Blah Blah.

Step One) do this;

Step Two) Do this…

etc.”

So… What should I write a How To paper on?

1. Pick a subject

What do you know that others don’t? You’d be surprised how many things you know how to do that others would love to learn. Make a list of five things you know how to do. Remember, even if there are experts on the subject, plenty of others don’t know where to begin. After creating your list, try to find a niche.

2. Write an outline

Writing an outline is essential. Getting your ideas on paper will spur you to write the paper. It’s just filling in the blanks. Note the various components (Categories of your interest, tools you will need, etc)

3. Research your subject

Locate facts and figures about your “How To” subject. The more resources you have on your subject, in addition to your own knowledge, the more satisfied you will be with your paper.

4. Write the paper

You don’t have to write the paper from start to finish, in that order. To begin, pick the easiest step to write from your outline. Remember, you already know this information, and are simply passing your knowledge on to others. You don’t have to create it out of thin air!

is there any particular hobby you enjoy doing? arts/crafts, gardening, collecting, etc. write about something you already do and enjoy. that way, your paper will turn out better since you would be an expert that would give your paper credibility and you would actually not mind writing the paper.

additional ideas…

building birdhouses

collecting sports cards

growing tulips

installing car audio

changing a tire

installing an air conditioner

washing dishes

grooming dogs

hope that helps! as you can see, you can pretty much write about anything. best of luck to you!

Something VERY simple. Making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, or make a phone call, or set an alarm clock.

something you know how to do, like write a story, build a birdhouse, or use yahoo! answers.
