Two of the most common languages used in Science are Latin and Greek. Science also uses Roman numerals, borrowed from the Italian language. It is fair to say, that Science uses many languages for terminology. For example, the word “hypothermia,” is borrowed from Greek and Latin. “Hypo” in Greek, means below. “Thermia” in Latin, means temperature. Therefore, the word “hypothermia” means below temperature, or, translated in English, medical terminology, means that someone’s body temperature is way below normal. Another example is the word “hypertension.” From Latin, the French derived the word “tension,” meaning pressure. Greek uses the word “hyper” which means above, or high, as translated in English. Therefore, the word “hypertension” means high pressure, or, translated in English, medical terminology, means that someone’s blood pressure is high.

Knowing foreign languages, and how they are combined to form medical terminology, helps doctors and scientists everyday. When new plants, viruses and atoms are discovered on Earth, scientists and doctors must name these findings, so that other scientists and doctors can understand the description of the discovery. In other words, it is easier to use Latin and Greek to name these discoveries, because they are the most common languages used in Science.

Hopefully, this will help you proceed with your essay. The dictionary will tell you, from where words in English are derived.

Good Luck. I hope you VOTE!

You can find similitudes in grammatic in two languages which have not the same roots. For exemple, in german and in arabic are the dative and accusative.

I know that hungar and finland languages have the identical root “fino-ougrienne”.

So if you see “annales” subjects of the roots languages of the net, or essays from students in “languages and civilisations” or linguistic of Universities sites, maybe you will find ideas.

Just fall of your answer per chance, because i am seeking how i could improve my english, i still didnt have not think of your question.

I write from France, speack also german, not arabic, just know this, excuse-me my mistakes in english, i would glad if i been corrected.

In the same time, i’m looking for english-nativs people for have a better english, also talking with voice, if someone can advise me, thanks a lot in advance,

and Good Luck for your essay.

Well, learning Japanese helped me a lot when it came to learning Chinese. Not so much the spoken language though I could sometimes guess the Chinese reading of a kanji character. It did help in understanding the meaning of the written language though.

Having studied Latin and German helped with understanding words in a wide variety of languages.

Nothing seemed to help with Finnish though…that’s an odder bird…and I don’t know Estonian or Hungarian which are apparently related…

I’m not sure what the question is?

What class is this for?

Are there any other instructions with this homework?

Are there other questions with this assignment?

EDIT

New words are introduced from other languages as people who speak other languages interact together in commerce or migration. Sometimes words are taken adopted directly such as Sapphire which comes from the Hebrew work Sapphire. Other times it is modified such as the Hebrew word ahave becoming the Greek word agape.
