First, make a list of themes from the novel. A theme is a larger general idea that is illustrated by specific events in the story. A theme can be almost anything, like: family conflict, beauty of nature, racism, growing older, love between friends, guilt, pride, and on and on.

Based on stuff that happened, list some possible themes.

Then look at your list. Pick one that you have strong opinions and experience with like, “family conflict” just as an example. Then write your thoughts about how the novel gives examples of that theme. Then just give your opinion on whatever that theme is, and perhaps how it has affected you personally.

Well, personal reflection means your own reactions and thoughts on the thematic ideas in a novel.

You can look up the thematic ideas on cliffnotes or sparknotes, then write about what you think of them.

If you want more detailed help, then please mention the novel and some of the thematic ideas you’re considering discussing.
