How did the stem cell research debate begin and how has it developed today?

The controversy began when they started using embryonic tissue to get the stem cells. Basically we began making humans so we could kill them and harvest their stem cells. Is it just to kill some people to heal others? That’s the controversy.
Today many countries have banned embryonic stem cell research but activists argue we should still use all the frozen embryos we have in “storage”. (sound cold? no pun intended)
Anyway, there have been major breakthroughs in stem cell research lately and scientists no longer “need” embryos so hopefully that will put an end to this type of research.
