How can you prevent innocent people from being accused and persumed guilty in the future?

I have to answer this question in regard to the Japanese Internment Camps during WW2 in an English essay. Does anybody have any suggestions?

Give them a lie detector test. If they pass, then they are innocent but if they fail, then test them again. If they fail twice, then shouldn’t they be guilty?

The Japanese were not accused and presumed guilty in the case of the WW2 situation. They were regarded as enemy natioals (even though most of them were citizens of the country they were living in) and were removed from the sensitive coastal area as a precautionary measure. There were no trials,no judgements. So in that sense they were not accused or presumed guilty of being anything. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, and looking back at their patience and forbearance during that difficult time makes the wartime hysteria inexcusable. But that’s the way things were then. It wouldn’t happen again today – at least, not in North America. Is it happening in Iran and Iraq and the Middle Eastern countries that are so continually war torn?Absolutely. Can anything be done about it? Only by the nationals of that country – and given the conditions under which they are living, and their political mind set, that isn’t about to happen anytime soon.

The best way to prevent a recurrance is not to become involved in wars….. and maybe civilization (at least in some parts of the world) is becoming mature enough to find alternative solutions to disputes, rather than rushing out and killing people. In the long run, that’s a useless solution because it doesn’t solve the basis of dispute.

There is a book about the Japanese internment camps during WWII by Danielle Steele called: “Silent Honor”…I would recommend it. I really agree with the comments of ‘old lady’ above. It should also be noted that the camps were also a ‘protection’ for them from likely ‘retribution’ by families of soldiers fighting and being killed abroad. So it wasn’t that they were just being ‘falsely accused or called guilty.’ We do not take lightly, they suffered horrible humiliation and loss of freedom. But please note, they were not KILLED or TORTURED, and they were released at the war’s end.

I think inthose kind of times it would be hard to presume someone’s innocence. Panic strikes and so does fear. Look at 9/11 there are still people who can not get on planes because they think they are terrorists. Are they I do not know. I do not think there is a way to guarentee it not happening again. It has to do with national security. I mean look at all the privacy things that are being ignored under the patriot act.
