How can I handle studying, homework, and having fun without failing?
Favorite Answer
As soon as you get home, have a light healthy snack and devote 2 hours to your homework. Take a 5 – 10 minute break in between.
If you’re still not finished, allow yourself a “brain break” for 30 minutes – do something you enjoy. Then, return to your work.
If you’re still not able to finish your assigned work, it may be a bigger issue — you might need the help of a tutor, at least for a while, until you can proceed on your own.
This requires self-motivation. You were motivated enough to ask – acknowledging you have a problem. Now it’s time to take action.
Bottom line — you’ll need to save your fun for weekends until you can better manage your time.
good luck!
You have to be disciplined about it though, that you don’t “gab” the time away without doing the actual WORK. Having a parent around can help you keep focus on the work. Having your friends to help “bounce off” ideas can be a great benefit, too.
Have the dining room table the focus of your “Homework group.” Have some cookies and milk there (okay SODA then!) so you can give your brains some energy while you spread out your books, papers, and what-not with your friends, and dig into the work.
Set the hours of 4:30-6:00pm for your study group, say, every day! You get with your friends, you get your work done… you have FUN and your grades will improve!
I hope this helps!
I finally had to force myself to do my homework first. I made it a rule that I couldn’t go out with my friends until I finished all my daily homework, or made progress on a paper (if it was a long-term project).
The problem is, if you don’t like homework, you will ALWAYS find something more interesting to do, so the best way to make sure you don’t fail is to go ahead and get it out of the way as soon as possible. You’ll be pleasantly surprised at how good it feels to finish all your work and realize you still have time to do something you want.
If you see studying and having fun as the same thing (but fun with friends as somewhat separate), then there is some hope in enjoying your studies. Although I think it is unlikely that you are seeing it this way.
I will suggest you prioritise your time and priorities. Look through your homework in a day, and decide how much time to set aside for homework and revision. Make it a priority to complete your assignments, before having fun with friends. If you want to go out with friends, always make sure there is nothing left (example, homework) so that you can check with your parents if you can spend more time outside having fun.
Important is the need to have fun to de-stress, but don’t go to the extreme.
