During the time when martin luther was alive, why were indulgences such a good money maker for the catholic church???

Well, if you had committed a sin and believed you were heading for eternal damnation, which would you rather do? Admit what you’d done and take your punishment, or pay a priest to tell you that you didn’t have to do anything, you could bribe your way out of your trouble?

Let’s face it, if you were the kind of person who had committed a nasty sin, you’d be the kind of person who would think a bribe was a perfectly acceptable way to get away with it.

Back then the church was stronger than the government and the people were strong believer

but today some religious leaders using the faith

for their own agenda and they’re collecting lot of money for their own good,as a results the people of today moved away from the church .

The Catholic church had a virtual monopoly on Europe, and when it set itself up as the only portal to a good afterlife, it was easy to fleece people who wanted to ensure a favorable afterlife for themselves and their loved ones. They were a good money maker because they had no competition, no significant competitor to offer an alternative route to a good afterlife.
