this book was important in bringing to light the conditions in labor and packing in the food system in the usa at the turn of the last century.
I also greatly admire Jane Addams and the impact she had on inner city Chicago through her humanitarian-based Hull House. Perhaps you could find a book on Women during that time.
Also, the Dakota Territory had been explored and the Westward Movement was in full force. Perhaps you could read about the movement of the various Indian tribes. I’ve often wondered if American art created around the turn of the century more accurately reflects what was actually happening or is a more idyllic view from white settlers perspectives, or is turn-of-the-century “politically correct?”
I know that doesn’t give you specific books, but perhaps gives you something to ponder for a topic you like.
Here is the site with the review of the book and what it’s about!
