Don’t get near the computer or your Play Station until your homework is done. Sit down somewhere like in your room or at your kitchen table. Do your homework and if you need a break DO NOT get on the computer or PS2. Go outside and take a little walk. Since its getting nicer outside, go out and read a magazine for a few minutes. Have a cookie or Diet Coke. Come back in and finish your homework. If you need to study, do that, too. When your done, go to the computer or whatever you want! You’ve definitley deserved it. Then, if you need to look over something because you have a test the next day or something, look over it about an hour before you go to bed. Then, don’t get back on the computer. Spend the rest of the time studying. Research proves that if you study before you go to sleep, you retain the information better then if you study in the morning. Good luck! & If you have any more questions feel free to contact me.

You ask a good question with the correct inference that studying comes before fun.

Let’s look at your time schedule. Your school ends at 1:00 and you go to bed at 9-9:30 PM. That gives you about 8 /1/2 to 8 hours a day remaining. Let’s say 8 hours since you need to get home and sometimes go to bed at 9:00.

We will give you about an hour for dinner. That should be more than sufficient. You now have 7 hours remaining. How long does it take you to do your homework? If you spend four hours on your homework every school night you will have 3 hours left for play.

Wait a minute. We forgot some other days. There are seven days a week not 5. There are school holidays and vacation breaks and summers. I do no t know the length of you school year but in most school systems it is about 180 days. That actually leaves you with more days that you do not have school than days that you do have school.

Don’t complain. Your parents have a much busier schedule than you do. You can do your school work and have plenty of time left over.

Well as an educator the only suggestion I can make is to map out certain allotments of time for each activity. Let’s assume you arrive home at 1:30 in the afternoon. This is a GREAT time to sit down and look through and check what you need to get done for homework or studying. After you figure out what you will NEED to get done, then you can plan out the rest of your time.

It is important that you get a break and have some free time away from studies to kick back and play games or whatever. And with planning you can! 🙂

I usually tell my students to allow themselves 30 to 60 minutes to study and review the night before a test. Ideally though, if you know a test is coming up you should spend about 15 minutes every day for a few days before the test reviewing. This will save you time the night before the test.

Depending on the type of homework you have you should allow yourself from one to one to two hours. Some days you’ll need less but rarely should you need more.

So, here is what we have established so far:

home at 1:30

1:30-1:45 schedule out evening

1:45-3:45 Get your studying and / or homework done!

3:45-? Free time

9:15 Goodnight

Hope this helps!

You get home from school plenty early to put a few hours of homework in. Take a break and do your Internet thing but limit the time to a few hours then study till it’s time for bed.

If you were in my house the computer would not be on for use till everything was finished and checked. (even pop questions to make sure you studied)

Your studies are more important than playing on a computer.

sounds like you have a similar problem to what I used to do…

pretty much split your time into 1/2 hr or 1 hr segments- work for 45 minutes to an hour (no distractions, sorry!) & reward yourself with a 1/2 hour of whatever you want to do. If you can, work for 90 minutes to 2 hours & take a full hour off (assuming you’re not finished with your homework)

Forget about the fun stuff until AFTER you’ve gotten the homework done. By the way, If I were your teacher, I’d add “Rules of Grammar” to your homework load. Your spelling, punctuation, and sentence construction need some serious work.

pull yourself away from the computer for fun and stick strictly for reasearch and typing. Set aside a certain time everyday for play on the net.
