Help with my math homework on functions?

So, I know how to get the answer of this problem:

f(x)=5x+7

Evaluate f(x+h)-f(x)/h

The answer is 5. However, I noticed that in every similiar problem, the answer is always the same as the slope of the linear function. Can someone please explain why?

I can show you this mathematically

let f(x) = mx + b

f(x+h) = m(x+h) + b = mx + mh + b

f(x+h) – f(x) = (mx + mh + b) – (mx + b)

= mx + mh + b – mx – b

= mh

f(x+h) – f(x) / h = mh / h = m

I hope this helped
