Help with math?

The Kewpee sold 495 hambugers today. The number sold with cheese was half the numbers sold without cheese. How many of each kind were sold?

I need an algebraic equation and the answer. If you could explain how you got the answer that would help. I got all the rest, this one is just giving me fits.

Thanks!

The number of hamburgers sold = h

Cheeseburgers = 1/2 h

h + 1/2 h = 495 hamburgers total. (combine your variables)

3/2 h = 495 (multiply both sides by 2/3)

h= 330

since h is the number of hamburgers sold, there were 330 hamburgers sold.

to find cheeseburgers you plug in the answer for h.

Cheeseburgers = 1/2 h

= 1/2 (330)

= 165

so there were 330 hamburgers and 165 cheeseburgers for a total of 495 total burgers.

The number sold with cheese was half the number sold without cheese.

If x = with cheese, Then 2x is the number sold without cheese

Total is 495 = x + 2x

495 = 3x

x= 495/3 use your calculator

x is the number sold without cheese

x + 1/2x=495

1.5x=495

x=330

Therefore 330 without cheese, 165 with cheese.

Total number of HB(hamburger) = 495

Let number of HB with cheese = C

Let number of HB without cheese = 2C

therefore

C + 2C = 495

3C =495

C = 495 / 3

C = 165 ( isn’t it easy )

You need to find a number that half of it added to it would equal 495 burgers.

Example:

I need 450 burgers!!

300/2=150

300+150=450

x=with cheese

y=without cheese

x+y=495

x=y/2

y/2+y=495

3y/2=495

3y=990

y=330

x=330/2

x=165
