Yep it’s me

Help with a math problem please?

An airplane covered 13 miles of its route while decreasing its altitude by 44,000 feet. Find the slope of the airplane’s line of descent. Round to the nearest hundredth. [Hint: 1 mi = 5280 feet.]

25/37 is what i believe the answer is. 25 feet down for every 37 feet over.

The plane descends 44,000 feet vertically, while travelling

13 x 5280 = 68,640 feet horizontally. So if the angle of

descent is x, then the side 44,000 is OPPOSITE to x , and

the side 68,640 is ADJACENT to x. Opposite and adjacent

are connected by the tangent ratio, so:

tan x = 44,000/68,640.

I`ll leave you to work it out. Hope it helps, Twiggy.

Slope is rise (or fall, here) over run. So it’s -44000 over (13 times 5280). Do it on a calculator and round it.
