Stem AND Leaf Plot? MEDIAN??

Please be very clear and answer this to me clearly because I’m only 12. Okay so there was this multiple choice question

it says

What is the median of the data in the stem and leaf plot?

23- 4, 5

24- 4, 7, 9

25- 0, 4, 8, 8

26- 3, 8, 9

27- 1, 2, 5

A) 25.4

B) 25.8

C) 254

D) 258

at first I thought it was the number in the middle of the leaf thing and it is 8 it is obviously wrong. Do you have to add it? Multiply it?

Thanks,

Rae

First of all, it would help to actually write out the numbers. From your stem and leaf plot, they are:

234, 235, 244, 247, 248, 250, 254, 258, 258, 263, 268, 269, 271, 272, 275.

Then you pick the number in the middle, which happens to be 258.

If you have trouble finding the number in the “middle” of the list, count one at a time from each end (cross off or delete if you have to) until you get to the middle number.

PS for the future: If you do it this way and find that there are *two* middle numbers (or none, however you want to say it) then you take the average of the two in the middle.
