HELP! Please don’t just give me the answer. I need to learn how to do it so can you please show me the steps.

A stoplight at the corner of Lincolnway and Duff is red 20% of the time. For someone who drives through this stoplight 10 times per week, what is the probability that they will have to stop at least one time?

If it’s red 20 times out of 100 (20%), I hope you KNOW already that means 2 times out of 10, right? If he drives thru it 10 times per week, and its red 2 times out of those 10, the there is a 20% probability that it will be red when he goes thru the light, right?

Thus there is a 20% probability that he will have to stop at least once.

WELL I BELIEVE THIS IS HOW YOU WOULD DO THIS PROBLEM.

20 OVER 100 WOULD EQUAL X OVER 10

20 OVER 100 BEING THE PERCENTAGE OF THE LIGHT BEING ON

X BEING THE VARIABLE OVER 10 (THE AMOUNT OF TIMES HE DRIVES BY THE LIGHT

SO THEN YOU JUST DO THE EQUATION:

MULTIPLY 10 BY 20

THE 100 BY X

SO THAT GETS YOU 200=100X

THEN U DIVIDE 100 ON EACH SIDE SO U GET THE VARIABLE BY ITSELF

THEN YOU GET 2=X

SO THE ANSWER IS 2 TIMES A WEEK OR 2%
