Help My sister adopted needs your help.?

My little new adopted sister is in 5th grade has a crazy teacher who gives homework that messes m up and I am in college so i don’t see how she can understand it. Please help me help my adopted sister do her homework

sodium is a soft, silvery metal that burns vigorously when exposed to air . Chlorine is a pale green, poisonous gas. do these properties tell you anything about the of the compound sodium chloride, which is made up of sodium and chloride? explain your answer.

WOW, that’s the material she’s giving, to a 5th grader???you should talk with the director of the school, or move her to other school.

I think that the teacher is trying to say that the compound is more dangerous and volatile than the 2 elements appart.

Example,:

A= (sodium)=bad

B= (chloride)=badder

A+B=death (worst thant the first two appart)

My best answer is that when you combine the two, because sodium burns when it is exposed to air, it would burn the chlorine, thus increasing the amount of the poisonous gas

I hope that helps, I’m not sure if its right though!
