Distribute 2: 2u + 6v = w – 5u

To solve for u means to get u on one side of the equation by itself. So first I’m going to move 6v to the opposite side which means I have to change its sign.

2u = w – 5u – 6v

Next bring 5u to the opposite side

2u + 5u = w – 6v

7u = w – 6v

The final step is to divide all term by 7 because you want to know what u equals not 7u.

u = (w/7) – (6w/7)

I’d be happy to help, but want to know what you understand of this so far.

Do you understand what the various symbols and how they are placed mean?

I think it’s awful that your teacher is going to give you a test when you were not able to get the assistance you needed to learn this in the first place! How annoying!

Edited: If you are having trouble at this point, you should go back to where you were last doing well in the class.

Something was introduced that you didn’t fully understand. You need to locate that precise item and fully understand that. Going on at all after that confusion will result in more confusion.

Do you understand what the parentheses mean? You can IM me at janeinla
