1) Start describing the painting as a whole and the emotions it creates for you.
2) Next, describe different sections of the painting.
You could also do the following:
1) Start on the small and move out for your description.
Make sure you try to address as many of the senses as possible (sight, smell, touch). A good way to do this is to create similes (the sun looked like a gleaming coin lost in crystal clear water).

Your favourite movie/book/song and why when you first seen/heard it and what emotions you feel.
