My goldfish ate my homework

Help! An entire 25 percent of my yealy history grade depends on this one little presentation! Help! Ideas?

I have a project on Australia and New Zealand and the British colonies etc. I have to do a short five minute presentation to the class about it and the biggest important thing is that it has to be interesting. The teacher says I can go as far as I want (dress up etc.) but I am out of ideas. An entire quarter of my whole year grade depends on it… Does anyone have any creative ideas for something attention-grabbing? Any scenario?

Please, serious answers only.

Some ideas:

-a world map with all British colonies a bright color in order to show the vast spread of British influence

-audio recordings of British English, Australian English, and American English to show how the same language has been morphed in each area

-discuss celebrities or famous characters from Australia (Steve Irwin, Nicole Kidman, Russell Crowe [New Zealand], Hugo Weaving, Crocodile Dundee)

-show a map of Australia and New Zealand showing the huge areas of “outback” versus the heavily populated areas

-discuss the filming of The Lord of the Rings, which was primarily shot on location in New Zealand

-discuss the false assumption that Australia, as one movie character puts it, is “entirely peopled with criminals” because of the establishment of a penal colony in 1788 as the first settlement

-compare Australia with other British colonies by dates of independence and those agreements (wars versus agreements, etc)

That’s all I’ve got for now. It could be a fun presentation, especially since it’s so short! I hope this helps.

you can start with a quick yahoo search of british colonial history in new zealand and australia. there’s so much information on the native tribes of the both countries. the maori tribes of new zealand are still really vibrant and the aboriginal tribes in australia and plentiful. you will find a lot of information to discuss for a 5 minute project . you’ll be great! good luck!
