Help me with Literal Equations? (Algebra)?

HOW ON EARTH DO YOU SOLVE LITERAL EQUATIONS??

For example:

ab=c, solve for b

Do you first divide “a” from both sides?

I’m just really confused. Please give a thorough and basic summary of how to solve literal equations.

You are right, just divide both sides by a and you get b = c/a

Basically you do the inverse operation or operations, in the inverse order than normally done, to get the letter requested by itself. For example if you have A = 2L + 2W, solve for W

You subtract 2L first then divide by 2 which is the reverse from normal (PEMDAS)

-5b + p = r to “isolate” b, subtract p from the two sides of the equation -5b + p – p = r – p pass out the +p-p on the left and divide the two sides via -5 -5b/(-5) = (r-p)/(-5) the (-5)/(-5) on the left =a million and can be crossed out, leaving b = (r-p)/(-5) ————————————–… h = 2(m-2l) to isolate l, divide via 2 h/2 = (2/2)(m-2l) h/2 = m-2l then upload (2l) to the two sides h/2 + 2l = m -2l + 2l h/2 + 2l = m then subtract h/2 from the two sides h/2 + 2l -h/2 = m – h/2 2l = m – h/2 then divide the two sides via 2 2l/2 = (m-h/2) / 2 l = (m-h/2) / 2 the suggestions-set in the two circumstances is to aaply the alternative operation (addition vs subtraction, multiplication vs branch), to get rid of the different words from the variable which you’re fixing for. do not ignore to obeserve the MDAS prioirity, and of direction that the parentheses (brackets) take priority, from the innermost pair to the outermost pair. solid success!
