1. Slavery was economically effective because the people who bought slaves to work on their farms or plantations did not pay them, or did not pay them very much, so they saved money and stayed wealthier themselves. They were only out the money they used to buy the person.

2. The African population was adversely affected in western coastal countries (where the majority of slaves were captured) because most slaves were young and strong. This meant that there were fewer people in those African countries to help farm, produce items, or have children (thus increasing populations). Since many slaves did not survive the trip to America, many slave runners captured more people to make sure “enough” survived to sell.

3. I don’t believe in slavery as being justifiable, but one could argue that since many European countries were exploiting African countries for their resources, it only makes sense that they would also exploit the local populations as well to use as cheap labour or to send off to work in the colonies in America and elsewhere.

4. If I was an explorer, I would not support slavery. I believe it is wrong to “own” another person or treat them like property.

You will have to rewrite these answers to sound like your own, but that should get you a passing grade on the assignment.

Slavery has been used by many cultures throughout the ages. Israelites were slaves in Egypt for 400 years until Moses set them free.

At that time, slaves had their own homes, families that stayed with them, and learnt their working style (Pyramid building in Egypt taught the Israelites concepts that built the Temple of Solomon).

To enslave a man, and consider his children to be the slave owners property is treating them as little more than breeding livestock. Any justification used to support slavery is inconsistant with an advanced culture.

Would I support slavery? My wife’s family was actively freeing slaves in western China 70 to 80 years ago.

Slavery was economically effective because the slaves worked for free. Think about all of the crops that the slaves took care of, and then free of charge. It probably saved someone alot of money.

There is no justification for slavery. I think that it is and always has been wrong to exploit people for money.Slavery saved money, but what anout all of the lifes that it ruined.
