I won’t do your homework for you, but I’ll give you a head start

1.Why was slavery economically effective?

The use of slaves as cheap labor enabled the farmers to produce mass quantities of crops such as cotton, tobacco, corn, etc., to ship overseas. These exports brought in a lot of money to the economy particularly in the South where these items were grown.

2.What impact did slavery have on the African population?

The slave traders focused on getting the strongest and most physically fit men and women of Africa to work as slaves. This left Africa with men and women that were either too old, too young, or had physical handicaps all of which crippled Africa’s growth for centuries, up to and including today. This also set up many civil wars on the continent as tribes would try and steal rival tribesman to sell to the Europeans or Americans for weapons of money.

3.What justification could be used to support slavery?

Slavery was valuable to the economy of the United States. Other arguments that were made at the time were that the “heathens” of Africa were able to become Christians in America, and also that the people were provided food and shelter. Generally, as well, most slaves were not tortured as put on TV, and were cared for when sick because it was too expensive to replace a slave if he died or became disabled.

4.If you were an explorer, would you support slavery? Why or why not?

Well, thats your opinion. You have to answer that on your own.

Anyway, there is a start for you. Hope it helps a little bit. Good Luck

Slavery has been used by many cultures throughout the ages. Israelites were slaves in Egypt for 400 years until Moses set them free. At that time, slaves had their own homes, families that stayed with them, and learnt their working style (Pyramid building in Egypt taught the Israelites concepts that built the Temple of Solomon). To enslave a man, and consider his children to be the slave owners property is treating them as little more than breeding livestock. Any justification used to support slavery is inconsistant with an advanced culture. Would I support slavery? My wife’s family was actively freeing slaves in western China 70 to 80 years ago.
