the distance around a circle is the circumference

circumference = 2(pi)(r)

r=radius

the distance across a circle is the diameter

diameter = 2(r)

therefore, circumference = pi(diameter)

The circumference of a circle (the distance around) is equal to the diameter (the distance across) times pi (3.14159…..)

Uh, this might not help that much.

But the distance across is called diameter.

And the distance around is called circumference

Try multiplying the diameter by 2.

And see if it = the circumference.
