given a 10.0ml sample of the unknown Ba(OH)2 solution, calculate the concentration of the solution if it took?

7.85 ml of a 0.102M H2SO4 to reach the equivalence point.

please explain how to do this, i will be doing a lab this afternoon and can’t figure out how to do it.

thanks

Ba(OH)2 + H2SO4 ——> BaSO4 + 2H20

so

1 mole of Ba(OH)2 reacts with 1 mole of H2SO4

that is

n(Ba(OH)2) = n(H2SO4)

using n = cv you have

c(Ba(OH)2)v(Ba(OH)2) = c(H2SO4)v(H2SO4)

so

c(Ba(OH)2)

= c(H2SO4)v(H2SO4) / v(Ba(OH)2)

= 0.102 * 7.85 / 10.0

= 0.0801M

.
