The walkway will encompass a rectangle 44X29 which has an area of 1276. The part of that area that is grass is 40X25=1000. The difference must be the sidewalk = 276 m²

First draw a diagram (always!). Draw the rectangle and label it’s length 40 and width 25. Now draw the walkway that surrounds it adding another 2m to each side. Do you see that the dimensions of the large rectange (the one including the walkway) is 44×29? Okay, calculate this area, and subtract the area of the plot of grass.

You have 44×29 – 40×25 = 1276-1000 = 276 square meters.

that’s it!

If i was pouring the walkway I’d measure the long sides first so there is 2 sides at 44m each (40+2 on each end), then the short sides next which are just 25 (you’ve already added the 2m when you measured the long sides). So 44 x 2 x2 = 176 plus 25 x 2 x 2 = 100. 176+ 100 = 276
