We need to make the given sentence into an equation we can solve. m Angle T (or “the measure of the angle T”) is our unknown, and it is equal (=) to 20 more (+ 20) than four times (4x) its supplement. “20 more than something” can be written also as “something plus 20”, which is closer to math-speak. So, our equation would look like:

(m Angle T) = 4 x (Supplement of Angle T) + 20

What is a supplement? The measure of an angle and its supplement adds up to 180 degrees. The supplement of any given angle x is usually written as the quantity (180 – x). For example: the supplement of 80 degrees is (180-80) = 100 degrees (Note that 80 + 100 = 180), or the supplement of 43 degrees is (180-43) = 137 degrees (since 43 +137 = 180), etc. I hope this is clear enough.

Therefore, the equation we need to solve is:

T = 4 x (180 – T) +20

Solving this algebraically, the steps include:

T = 720 – 4T + 20

T = 740 – 4T

T + 4T = 740

5T = 740

T = 740 /5

T = 148

So, the m Angle T = 148 degrees. Note that this can easily be verified. The supplement of Angle T is 32 degrees. Four times 32 is 128, and 20 more than 128 is 148.

Hope this helps.

Supplement = an angle added to another angle that adds up to 180 degrees

“T is 20 more than” means

T-20 is equal to something.

“four times its supplement” means

4*(180-T)

hence,

T-20=4*(180-T)

T-20 = 720-4T

4T+T-20=720-4T+4T

5T-20=720

5T=720+20

5T=740

T=148 degrees

“it’s supplement” would mean m Angle T x4 +20 is equal to 180

so….

180* -20 = (4x mAngle T)

160 /4 = 40 = mAngle T

good luck

Set up the equation:

T = 4(180-T)+20

T = 720 -4T+20

etc.
