Four Parts of a Sentence?

The four parts of a complete sentence are:

1-Period

2-Capital Beginning

3-Subject

4-Verb or Predicate

Now, part 4 reads “verb or predicate.”

Is verb another way to predicate?

If not, what is the difference between a verb and predicate in terms of a complete sentence?

1 Capital

2 Subject

3 Verb

4 Predicate

5 Period

The predicate is not necessary in a simple sentence.

The boy ran.

The predicate (when used) is the words following the verb. The predicate modifies or qualifies the verb. It is not the verb itself.

The boy ran quickly./The boy ran to the park.
