Nothing is always set to Zero!.but you need one to find the other, what is TI83?.

EDIT-please add the number you are missing, as an additional info, so we can solve it for You, otherwise don’t worry about it, if that’s the way it’s written!.

The only thing you can do is assume, the one number to get the other!, like one answerer did!.If you had the one #, it would be as easy as that!.suppose You had 2x+8=20,

then it would be,2x=20 -8, 2x=12, x =6.for proof, you would do,2times6, or 2x +8 =20. 2times 6=12, 12+8 =20….

I don’t really know what TI83 is, but I believe that to solve this equasion you need at least one more [the most you get here is x=ay, a=constant]. it’s not random at all though: if you have aqnother equasion, then you just put ‘2x+8’ instead of every y there, and solve. then you wil get certain values for x (either no values, one value, two values, or infinite values] depending on the type of equasion you solved.

Neither x nor y is set to 0!

For example you want x to be 2, so

2(2)+8=y

12=y

y=12

What’s TI83 anyway???

You dont need a calculator to look for the values of x and y. Just substitute, transpose, compute and then you’ll get the answer.
