The midpoint of the line from (2,9) to (-6,-7) is:

( (2 – 6)/2, (9 – 7)/2 )

= (-4/2, 2/2)

= (-2, 1).

The gradient of the line between those points is:

(-7 – 9) / (-6 – 2)

= -16 / (-8)

= 2.

The gradient of the perpendicular line is therefore -1/2, and its equation is:

y – 1 = (-1/2)(x + 2)

y = -(1/2)x.
