Find 3 Consecutive Integers whose sum is 96.?

I know that the answers is 31,32, and 33. My problem is that our book says to write an equation. It starts out as:

n+(n+6)+(n+9)=96

But I do not know where to go from there. PLEASE HELP ASAP!!!

n + n+6 + n+9 = 96

3n = 81

Well – start by getting the numbers on one side and the unknowns on the other. 3n = 81 (I added the n’s together on one side and substracted 6 and 9 from the other). You should be able to take it from here – now divide n=81 / 3

or n =27. However, you need consecutive integers. In other words not every n can equal 27. One n can equal 27, but the other two n answers must be different. You can do it. Hope this helps.
