Introduction, body, conclusion

Beginning, middle, end

First, you announce the topic or theme of your essay — your argument. Then, you develop each point of the argument in a separate paragraph. You can either start with the strongest argument, or save it for the end. Finally, you summarize your argument in the last paragraph.

You might want to begin your essay with a question, a quote, or a statistic to grab the reader’s attention. Of course, you can do the same thing in your middle paragraphs to keep the reader interested.

1. introductory paragraph describing something that you have noticed about everyday life

2. paragraph about the first time you noticed it

3. paragraph about the most recent time that you have noticed it

4. paragraph about what you think about this amazing occurrence now that you have taken time to relect about it

5. paragraph describing other people’s reactions or examples from literature

6. paragraph about the ongoing signifigance of this incredible phenomenon and why really evrybody should pay more attention to it

7 final paragraph ending with a wonderful memorable incident in which this amazing occurrnce added richness to someone’s life

Example: everyone should learn to waterski even if they only get to go once in their life

OR: the first time you ever set foot in a third world country

OR: watching my grandmother’s method of baking a birthday cake
