Beginning, middle, end
First, you announce the topic or theme of your essay — your argument. Then, you develop each point of the argument in a separate paragraph. You can either start with the strongest argument, or save it for the end. Finally, you summarize your argument in the last paragraph.
You might want to begin your essay with a question, a quote, or a statistic to grab the reader’s attention. Of course, you can do the same thing in your middle paragraphs to keep the reader interested.
