There are records of graphs going as far back as Egyptian times. The Phoenicians were great mathematicians. The ancient Chinese created graphs.
So take your pick.

French mathematician Rene Descartes invented analytical geometry and the graph paper type of graph around 1620.
In 1736, Swiss mathematician Leonhard Euler developed another type of graph and graph theory to solve the question of the Konigsberg bridges and that is used to solve other similar problems to this day. This is the one more likely to relate to geography.
